E-mail verification (NIS2) for .nl, .de, .fr, .it, .pl, ... domain name extensions among others as of Oct. 14, 2024

What is the NIS2 guideline?

The NIS2 Directive is part of the EU's initiative to strengthen cybersecurity and protect critical infrastructure. The directive affects organizations in the EU, including those who manage ccTLDs (.nl, .de, .fr, .it, ...) and domain registrars. Among other things, the NIS2 directive requires that domain registrar data be accurate.

For which domain name extensions does the NIS2 directive count?

Email verification will be mandatory for subsequent domain name extensions (TLDs) starting Oct. 14, 2024. This applies to new domain registrations, incoming transfers and contact updates (including domain ownership changes).

  • Austria: .at, .co.at, .or.at.

It is best to do this right away. If you don't do the verification before January 15, 2025 your domain name will unfortunately be suspended.

What will happen from Oct. 14 for new domain names?

After registration you will receive an email to verify the ownership of your domain name. You need to do this verification within 14 days. If not, your domain name will be suspended with no refund.
