Install a purchased SSL certificate

Updated on 4 November 20261 min read

Free SSL (Let's Encrypt) is on by default. Bought a paid certificate (e.g. with extended validation)? Here's how to install it.

Here's how

  1. After purchase, the issuer gives you the certificate (.crt) and possibly the intermediate certificate (CA bundle). You created the private key when you requested it.
  2. Log in to DirectAdmin: open your plan in your client area and click Open DirectAdmin. You're signed in right away.
  3. Go to Account Manager → SSL Certificates and choose your domain.
  4. Choose Paste a pre-generated certificate and key.
  5. Paste the private key and the certificate in the fields, and the intermediate certificate under CA Root Certificate.
  6. Click Save.

Activate or renew free SSL: see "Activate free SSL (https) with Let's Encrypt".

Then don't forget to force https: Account Manager → Domain Setup → Force SSL with https redirect.
