Show or hide PHP error messages (display_errors)

Updated on 4 November 20261 min read

While hunting for an error you want to see the error message on screen. On a live site, best turn this off again: error messages can reveal sensitive information.

Here's how

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin: open your plan in your client area and click Open DirectAdmin. You're signed in right away.
  2. Open Select PHP version (under Extra Features), or type "Select PHP" in the search field.
  3. Open the Options tab.
  4. Tick display_errors to show errors, or untick it to hide them.
  5. Don't forget to turn it off again once you've found the error.

Does the page show an error about the "native" PHP version? Then first choose a regular PHP version at the top (e.g. 8.3) and click Set as current.

Want to see errors without showing them to visitors? Use the error log in DigiPanel (Website → Error log).
