Run your website from a subfolder

Updated on 4 November 20261 min read

Some systems (such as Drupal or Laravel) want their public files in a subfolder, e.g. public_html/web. You still want visitors to simply land on yourdomain.be.

Here's how

  1. Leave the files in the subfolder (e.g. public_html/web).
  2. In public_html, put a .htaccess file with: RewriteEngine On and RewriteRule ^(.*)$ web/$1 [L]
  3. Test whether your site works on yourdomain.be.
