Set up SPF and DMARC against spoofing

Updated on 4 November 20261 min read

SPF and DMARC tell other mail servers which servers may send mail on behalf of your domain. That way your mail lands in spam less often and nobody can simply send mail in your name.

Here's how

  1. Go to Account Manager → DNS Management and choose your domain.
  2. SPF is there by default as a TXT record starting with v=spf1. Do you also send mail via another service (e.g. a newsletter service)? Then add it as that service instructs, in the same record.
  3. For DMARC, add a TXT record with name _dmarc and value: v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:you@yourdomain.be
  4. If everything works well for a few weeks, change p=none to p=quarantine.

There may be only one SPF record per domain. Two separate SPF records = both invalid.

In DigiPanel the health score shows whether SPF and DMARC are in order.
