The TTL says how long other DNS servers may remember a record before asking again. The lower it is, the faster a change is visible everywhere.
Here's how #
- 3600 (1 hour) is a good default for most records.
- About to change something (e.g. a move)? Set the TTL to 300 (5 minutes) a day in advance: then everything switches over faster.
- After the change, set it back to 3600.
A lower TTL doesn't make your site faster; it only decides how quickly changes come through.
