You register a domain name per year (for some extensions per two years). Renew in time, or someone else can register it.
Here's how #
- Well before the expiry date you get an invoice for the renewal.
- Turned on auto-renewal and saved a payment method? Then it happens by itself.
- Otherwise pay the invoice yourself, before the due date.
- You can see the expiry date in your client area under Domain names.
Don't want a domain name anymore? Then simply let it expire; it costs you nothing extra.
